The OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management is a qualification for aspiring health and safety professionals. It is aimed at learners who are responsible for developing and applying health and safety procedures on a day-to-day basis in an organisation. The objective of the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management qualification is to develop occupational health and safety management skills for managers who have the authority and personal attributes to translate organisational strategy into effective operational performance.

This qualification reflects current practice in occupational health and safety management and allows learners to develop and expand their high-level understanding of occupational health and safety in the workplace.

The programme addresses a wide range of multidisciplinary topics, such as, health and safety management practice, health and safety management systems, strategic risk intervention, strategies to improve occupational wellbeing, sustainability, and ethics. The Advanced Research Methods unit will allow learners to develop a critical understanding of the philosophical, practical, and ethical concepts of research within the context of a health and safety environment.

The qualification will enable learners to become independent, self-directed learners with the tools and motivation to continue learning, developing, and reflecting on practice throughout their careers.

Learners will develop knowledge and skills relevant to putting policy into practice, utilising management systems, resources, risk and incident management, leadership, management, and skills development.

Accreditation

The OTHM Level 7 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Management is regulated by Ofqual (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation).

The OTHM Level 7 diplomas on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) are at the same level as master’s degrees. However, they are shorter (120 credits), and learners will have to proceed to the dissertation stage (60 credits) with a university partner to achieve a full master’s programm

Entry Requirements

For entry onto the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management qualification, learners will be expected to possess:

  • A minimum of a Level 6 qualification, such as the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent Level 6 qualification; or
  • An honours degree (2.2) with relevant knowledge and experience in the occupational health and safety sector
  • Learners must be 21 years of age or older at the beginning of the course.

Applicants with substantial relevant professional experience will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

English requirements: If a learner is not from a majority English-speaking country, they must provide evidence of English language competency.

OTHM has progression arrangements with several UK universities that acknowledge the ability of learners after studying Level 3–7 qualifications to be considered for advanced entry into corresponding degree year/top up and Master’s/top-up programmes.

Mode of Study

Lectures will be held once a week via classroom or virtual and run for 4 months (16 weekends), and thereafter you will be required to undertake work experience in an occupational health and safety setting. At least you will be required to provide evidence of not less than 200 hours of work experience in the form of practical experience and portfolio completion.

The OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management consists of 6 mandatory units for a combined total of 120 credits, 1200 hours of total qualification time (TQT), and 600 guided learning hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.

Assessment Note

No exams are necessary for this programme. Assessment is based on both written work and oral work. Learners will be expected to produce assignments that are assessed by the assessor to cover the underpinning knowledge.

All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the assessor.

Certification Note

Upon successfully passing the qualification, the learner will get an Ofqual Regulated PDF Certificate from OTHM. OTHM Qualifications (the awarding body) only issues verifiable certificates and Transcripts electronically and securely in PDF format without an extra fee.
